First Printing First Printing of an original poster (all our posters are original) is the first date a poster is printed.
Original posters are printed in limited quantities to advertise or promote a product or idea. Posters can be printed only for a single occasion or sometimes, often due to a poster's popularity, can be printed again. These later printings can occur once or several times. In general, more copies of subsequent printings have survived and therefore, first printings are scarcer and command a higher price because of their rarity. However, the visual differences between a first and subsequent printings is usually negligible. First printings are priced between $325-$850 [most $325-475] depending on the image, rarity, popularity & condition.
On the website, below the image of a poster, the publication date(s) of the poster are indicated. If more than one year is shown, the first year is the date the poster was initially printed. However, the price shown is for the later printings. If the first year has an asterisk (*), the first printing of that image is currently in our inventory.
