The 3rd exhibit of CYRK posters at the Polish Consulate was a great success.
The purpose of the exhibit was the Polish interest to reach out to the NY Jewish community--to help bring the Polish people & the Jewish people closer together.
The feature of the exhibit was contemporary Polish Jewish posters.
Poland's Consulate General in NY, Agnieska Magdziak-Miszewska, invited Polish diplomats & dignitaries in New York City during the holiday season as well as members of the NYC Polish community to attend the exhibit. Each evening another NY Jewish organization brought its members to view the exhibit: Central Synagogue, The American Society for Jewish Heritage in Poland (affiliated with the Institute of Jewish History, Warsaw, PL), Congregation Rodeph Sholom, Simon Wiesenthal Center, Park Avenue Synagogue & the Friends of the Jewish Culture Festival Society (affiliated with the Jewish Culture Festival in Cracow, PL).
The highlights of the evening activities were the candle lighting of the menorah (candlebra) during the Park Avenue Synagogue event when Rabbi David L. Lincoln & the cantor led the group in the singing of traditional Hanukah songs--celebrating the Jewish Festival of Lights which lasts 8 days; the presentation of a menorah to Consul General Magdziak-Miszewska by Rabbi Peter J. Rubenstein of Central Synagogue and the record turnout of people at the Friends of the Jewish Culture Festival evening to hear Janusz Makuch, founder/director of the Jewish Culture Festival in Cracow, PL & the Cracow Klezmer Band from Poland.
The exhibit was open to the public during the day.
More than 30 Polish Jewish cultural posters featuring Jewish theater, film, opera, exhibits decorated the beautiful Polish Consulate exhibit. There was also a separate exhibit of the many posters by Polish poster artist Andrzej Pagowski for the National Jewish Theater, (E.R. Kaminski Theater), Warsaw, PL.
Many hard-to-find (1960s) CYRK posters were displayed along with jazz, film, theater, opera posters.
It was the most successful exhibit at the Polish Consulate to date.
